Cleaning your home naturally with essential oils

Cleaning your home naturally with essential oils

Cleaning…It really can be a chore for some of us! But what if we told you that you can add essential oils into your cleaning routine? How would you feel then? Here at Essentially Yours, we are passionate about sharing our own tips and tricks on how to get the most out of your essential oil collection. In today's blog, we will be telling you the best oils to clean the house with (as well as sharing a couple of our recipes along the way). You can thank us later when your home smells beautiful and is squeaky clean!

So, which essential oils can I clean my house with?

Lemon Essential Oil from Essentially Co

Lemon: A personal favourite of ours, Lemon is an extremely versatile essential oil, and is perfect to use around the house. Use it to clean your kitchen and bathroom, or use to polish old furniture to breathe life into it! A recipe we swear by is 200ml Olive Oil mixed with 8-10 drops of Lemon essential oil. Use this as polish leather and wood furniture!

Lavender Oil from Essentially Co

Lavender: Known for its soothing, calming scent, Lavender is a great essential oil to have for multiple reasons - including keeping the home fresh and clean. With anti-microbial properties, this is a great oil to dilute with water and to spritz on linen and clothes to give them a refresh. You can also soak cedar balls in a few drops of Lavender essential oil, put them in an old sock, and store in drawers to keep clothes smelling fresh all year long!

Tea Tree Oil from Essentially Co

Tea Tree: A natural antibacterial oil, is excellent for cleaning the whole house and can be combined with vinegar to cut through grime and leave your kitchen squeaky clean!

Organic Orange Oil from Essentially Co

Orange: Similar to Lemon oil, this citrusy, sweet-smelling oil is brilliant for cutting through grime and giving the home a fresh scent. Like Lemon oil, it can be used as a polish (so follow the same above recipe if you want something slightly sweeter, as not everybody likes the tang that Lemons can give off!)

Eucalyptus Oil from Essentially Co

Eucalyptus: Where would we be without the ever-faithful Eucalyptus Oil when cleaning the home. An active ingredient in many commercial cleaning products you will find in your shopping aisle, add a few drops to water and use across floors, bathrooms, kitchens, car insides, toys, and benches.... oh and don't forget the shoes, toilets, door handles, washing, linen... the list goes on!

Peppermint Oil from Essentially Co

Mint: Refreshing and invigorating, we love the smell of Mint here at Essentially Yours! A perfect pest repellant, we love using Mint essential oil in the bathroom and kitchen. It complements other oils such as Pine, Eucalyptus, and Tea Tree perfectly, and can be used to clean windows to give you a streak-free shine! Use any type of mint including spearmint, peppermint, or any mint oil you have.

Pine: Earthy yet fresh, smelling Pine will remind you of your shop-bought cleaning products! If you aren’t a fan of venturing and creating new scents, ditch the chemical-based cleaning products and use essential oils instead. Pine kills germs, spores, and other nasties in the house, and is best used on walls and floors. To make your own floor cleaner, use 500ml of hot water (not boiling), 10-15 drops of Pine oil, 150ml of white vinegar and shake in a spray bottle. Spray on the floor to create a thin film, leave for 10-15 minutes before wiping away with a mop or sponge!

We hope you experiment with some of our recipes that we’ve shared today, and we’d love to hear what works for you, too! Feel free to submit your recipes to the Essentially Yours team!
