Cracking Coco's Nuts! Coconut Oil in the spotlight!

Here at Essentially Yours, we are passionate about sharing useful content about essential oils, and other oils that will benefit your overall health and wellbeing! In this blog, Essentially Yours will be sharing information on another one of our favourites...Coconut Oil! So, if you want to learn more - keep reading…

What is Coconut Oil?

Coconut Oil, known as a superfood, is a tropical nut that is fragrant and rich in fats and vitamins. It’s extracted from the coconut's flesh or milk, and can be used for multiple purposes including skincare and general health and wellbeing! Here at Essentially Yours, we love Coconut Oil because it can be used for a variety of things, as well as being accessible (and in some cases) cheaper oil for beauty and cooking purposes!

How can I use it?

Carrier oil: Coconut Oil is a popular carrier oil due to its properties and thick texture extending the life of essential oils, as well as its fragrance complimenting a lot of essential oils on the market. Vanilla essential oil is a great example of this and can be made into a beautiful blend perfect for aromatherapy or skincare.

Standalone moisturiser: Coconut Oil is perfect if you want to use it as a body and face moisturiser. Packed with Lauric Acid, this has antimicrobial properties which are perfect for keeping bacteria at bay, too! Coconut Oil has been scientifically proven to boost moisture levels in the skin, and a little really goes a long way with this oil!

Hair mask: Similar to other oils on the market, Coconut Oil is present in many conditioners and shampoos commercially available, but did you know that using it on its own is equally as effective? Whether as a hair mask, or a conditioning treatment, Coconut Oil restores dry, damaged hair and is an inexpensive way to do it at home (especially if you find yourself buying upmarket treatments for your hair!).

Makeup remover: Beauty influencers swear by it, and we swear by it too! Coconut Oil is a gentle yet effective makeup remover, and by massaging it into the skin and removing it with warm water as part of your cleansing routine, you’ll see it removes even the most stubborn waterproof makeup!

Lip balm: Coconut Oil at room temperature is solid, and in the winter is the perfect handbag companion for a homemade lip balm!

Cooking: Whether it's for baking cakes, frying meat, and vegetables or creating a vegan chocolate sauce - Coconut Oil can do all of the following with ease! It’s also a great alternative for healthier shallow frying and getting extra fat in your diet.

What are the benefits of using Coconut Oil?

Moisturised skin, lips, and hair: Coconut Oil is proven to moisturise the hair, skin and lips (whilst also smelling and feeling great, too!).

Better internal health: Coconut Oil has saturated fats, acids, and compounds that have been proven to boost internal health, keep cavities and bacterial infections at bay, as well as boosting the metabolism, too!

Healthier to eat and cook with: Overall, Coconut Oil is by far a much healthier alternative to cook, bake, and use on a daily basis than your average household oil!
